Outdoor Learning

At Fyvie School we are extremely fortunate to have amazing school grounds. We have a tarred playground, a very large playing field, a wooded area and the ‘Jannie’s Garden’ – an area for planting and growing. In addition to the school grounds we back on to Fyvie Estate’s wood, lake and castle.

Every class takes part in outdoor learning once a week with their teacher, a PSA and normally a parent helper volunteer. We use the school grounds but we also make use of the estate’s wood to learn. Classes go out in all weathers to learn outdoors. Many outdoor learning lessons have a strong health and wellbeing focus however other areas of the curriculum are taught during outdoor learning from maths to French and social subjects to science.

The School has achieved many awards and certificates for its eco work including two Eco Schools Scotland Green Flags, a Gold Green Tree Award and Formartine Beginning to Blossom Silver Gilt awards.
